Updates

It's been a while, so here's a little update with some links, news, and miscellany about things happening here at DB...

  • DB and ARO's R-House, currently shooting for Passivhaus certification, was honored with a 2011 AIA Housing Award.
  • We were honored to be invited to participate on the jury of the Architectural League's Design in 5 charrette, taking place in Greenpoint on a gray Saturday last month. The work was fun to see, and inspired a great discussion with fellow jurors Linda Pollak and Mario Gooden. You can see the jury selections and a project synopsis over at Urban Omnibus.
  • We also spoke at the Ohio State University's Knowlton School of Architecture. The school's home is a fascinating structure from Mack Scogin and Merrill Elam and is an inspiring place to learn. The lecture can be viewed online here.
  • DB partner Andrew Bernheimer has joined the Institute for Urban Design as a Fellow. Please check out IfUD'sprogram "By the City/For the City", a leadup to Urban Design Week this fall, and follow them on Twitter at @IfUD.
  • Alloy Development, run by DB partner Jared Della Valle, is converting 192 Water Street here in Dumbo to residential condominiums. DB is the architect for the project, and we are in the early stages of construction. The 192 Water website is here and Curbed revealed a bit about the project here. Take a look.
  • Artreehoose is featured in Eva Hagberg's newly released book "Nature Framed", published by The Monacelli Press.
  • As always you can follow our intermittent observations on Twitter at @dvbernheimer

Stay tuned for more news as it comes in, we will do our best to update more frequently.

Architect Magazine 2010 R&D Award for R-House

DB and ARO were honored with a 2010 R&D Award from Architect Magazine for R-House, in Syracuse. You can see the entire list of winners (and slideshows of winning projects) here. Congrats to our colleagues.

Public Relations

Nothing deceptive about the blog post, rather this is simply an update on press we have gotten recently, mostly across the blogosphere and Twitterverse.  Thanks to ArchDaily for featuring 459 West 18th Street and Copper House, and to Paul McGinnis for investigating R-House at The New York Green Advocate.  And thanks to all of those who tweeted about or linked to the pieces. One clarification: In his article Paul refers to a pre-fab Passivhaus for Hometta, but that isn't the case yet with our design. We are desiging a house involving PH principles and Hometta doesn't sell pre-fab houses but rather house plans.  Regardless, we are very thankful for Paul's devotion to the cause and for featuring our project.
