Andrew Bernheimer AIA, NCARB
Principal

Andrew Bernheimer has honed an ability to execute subtle, exciting, and complex architecture within the constraints of real-world construction practices. With a diverse background in design and academia, Bernheimer partnered with Jared Della Valle in 1996 to form the award-winning architecture practice Della Valle Bernheimer. Bernheimer and Della Valle continue to collaborate; however Della Valle has pursued his passion for real estate development with Alloy LLC, while Andrew Bernheimer has formed his own practice. Bernheimer plans to focus on New York's urban landscape through research and built work to include civic, residential and affordable housing projects.

Bernheimer artfully translates concepts into built forms with a strong sense of economy and practicality. His diverse portfolio of public, institutional, non-profit, and private work with wideranging contexts and diverse client personalities has elicited a welcome variety of thought and response. Best known work includes the renovation of legendary architect Paul Rudolph's penthouse apartment and office at 23 Beekman Place in New York City; innovative residential condominiums at 245 Tenth Avenue, adjacent to the High Line and 459 West 18th, both in New York City; an installation at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Glenmore Gardens, affordable housing in East New York; as well as significant private residences in upstate New York, Connecticut, and the Hamptons.

Bernheimer is a licensed Architect in New York State and a member of NCARB. He is a member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects), a Fellow at the Institute for Urban Design and a member of the Architectural League of New York. He currently teaches at the Parsons, The New School of Design and has taught at Syracuse University, Lehigh University, the Rhode Island School of Design and The City College of New York. He has lectured at major universities and institutions; his work has been the subject of over fifty articles and publications. In 2009 "Think/Make", a monograph on the first decade of his practice at Della Valle Bernheimer, was published in 2009 by Princeton Architectural Press.
