A gut renovation of a post-war Fifth Avenue Apartment overlooking Central Park into an pied-a-terre for a family with children. THe apartment features a milled stainless steel armature that anchors the space and serves as a container for programmatic elements. The Central Park and corner exposures were maximized by opening the space to the west with a sliding partition made of a thick translucent cast-resin panel that emerges from the armature. The experience of Central Park and the city are heightened by window surrounds that are wrapped with the same stainless steel, providing unique and unexpected reflections into the apartment. The language of minimal volumes and spaces is balanced by the rich material palette and detailing that unifies the space and gives the apartment a sense of order.
